Print a worksheet

Print the worksheet on A4 or Letter, at actual size as a placement template, with registration marks and appliqué templates.

Updated November 1, 2026

File ▸ Print / PDF… opens the worksheet: a sheet with the design, its size, stitches, sewing time and bobbin thread, then the thread list, the order the colours are sewn in and a sheet for each colour. Print… hands it to your browser's print dialog, which prints it or saves it as a PDF.

Paper

The sheets are A4 or US Letter, whatever paper the printer would choose. Paper in the toolbar starts on your country's — Letter in the US and Canada, A4 everywhere else — and this browser keeps what you choose.

Actual size

Scale ▸ Actual size draws the design at 1:1, so the sheet can be laid on the fabric to place it: the hoop's centre as a cross in a circle, a dashed box round the stitches, a green ring where the machine starts, and five red registration marks. The stitches are drawn as fine lines, 0.2 mm wide, that end on their needle points, so the edges of a satin fall where they are sewn; the overview's lines are thicker, to read well at any size. Fit to page, the default, shows it as large as the sheet allows.

A design larger than one sheet is printed across several, each labelled with its row, its column and "2 of 4". Neighbouring sheets overlap by 10 mm: lay them over each other until the blue marks in the overlaps meet, and tape them together.

Tip

Print at 100 %, without "Fit to page" in the print dialog. Every actual-size sheet has a 50 mm bar — 2 inches when sizes are shown in inches — measure it to check.

Registration marks

The five red crosses — one in the middle of the design, one 5 mm beyond each of its sides — are its registration marks. Sew registration marks in File ▸ Export ▸ Machine file… sews them first, in a thread of their own, and stops before the design: hoop the fabric again, or lay a printed sheet on them, and the crosses line it up. They go into that file only, never into your design, and the design keeps its place in the file. The dialog warns when a mark would reach past the hoop, which a machine refuses; on an oval hoop it checks the marks against the oval itself, so a mark in a corner the oval does not reach is caught too.

Appliqué templates

With an appliqué in the design, Appliqué templates adds sheets with every piece of fabric at 1:1: the line the placement stitch sews, numbered in the order the pieces are sewn, with the object's name, its thread and its stitches, and the registration marks. A piece that names its appliqué fabric is tinted in that fabric's colour and says its name, so you know which cloth to cut it from; one sewn without its holes is drawn without them. Mirror flips the pieces for fusible web, which is traced on its paper side. For a cutting machine, see Appliqué.

A contact sheet of your designs

The worksheet is one design's. To print several designs on a sheet — a folder of machine files, say, with their pictures, sizes, stitches and threads — use Contact sheet in My Files: it prints the designs shown or the ones you ticked, twenty to a sheet, on the same paper as the worksheet. Projects and files shows how, and how to download them as a list.
