Lettering and Satin (area)

Embroidery fonts sew as they were digitised; outline fonts are sewn in Satin (area) along each letter’s strokes.

Updated October 19, 2026

The lettering tool sets text in two kinds of font. Embroidery fonts are digitised letter by letter and sewn as they are. Outline fonts — TrueType and OpenType, with twenty-five font families under open licences included — are sewn in Satin (area) unless you choose another stitch type: satin columns along each letter’s strokes, with strokes too wide for satin filled and hairlines run.

Shaping text

Bend text into an arc, set it along a path, or put outline text in an envelope. Satin (area) works on any closed shape too: choose it as the stitch type of a logo, and set with Fill strokes wider than under Advanced how wide a stroke may be before it is filled.
